Twitter is a highly popular brand of social media for a variety of reasons. This social medium is simple to use, simple to teach others how to use, quick since you are limited to a maximum of 140 characters and is a consistent means of gaining new customers and Followers. The problem with Twitter is pretty much the same for all forms of social media; put this tool in the wrong hands and it becomes a monster! There are many ways to utilize Twitter to the advantage of a business. However, let’s focus on a few ways that could very easily kill any momentum your business is trying to create.
Consistently Tweet and with a purpose. A Twitter business profile needs to have a solid game plan. Tweet about relevant topics that are aligned with your business, Follow people and businesses that share the same interests and create a voice that remains consistent so your Followers know what to expect. Above all, do not go days, weeks and even months without creating a post on Twitter. A business that is absent from Twitter for long becomes a company that people ignore.
Promoting your company is important. Being egocentric is not. Your Followers want to know what you are doing, what your business is doing and what plans are forthcoming. However, if every Tweet has to do with your world, that gets boring very fast. Retweet posts from people and businesses you follow so your Followers get an idea of what other interests you have. Use the @reply function often to engage people and businesses you Follow in communication. This type of activity can only help gain more Followers and potentially more business.
Remember, this is a business, not a personal profile. Therefore, use complete words, phrases and sentences. 140 characters do not need to be 140 characters of mindless babble! Also, limit the use of the hashtags. One, even two is okay. Anything beyond that looks unprofessional.
Use an appropriate logo for your business’s Twitter page. Take one brief minute to either upload your brand’s image or a business appropriate image of yourself for your profile page. People will think your Twitter profile is pure spam if they see the Twitter egg as your company’s profile picture!
Twitter is an effective tool and a fun brand of social media. Be sure to utilize it in a manner to help your business expand its clientele, not destroy it!

Basically, the theory that an individual should treat others in the same manner he or she wants to be treated is fairly common sense. This theory includes not being so self-centered, so egocentric.
