The Silverback Marketing Round-up for October 24-October 28, 2011

The Silverback Marketing Round-up for October 24-October 28, 2011Silverback Marketing posted on Tuesday, October 25 about the importance of quality content on your website and on Friday, October 21 posted a list of some general tips to enhance the SEO of your site. The manner in which a webmaster needs to engage in proper search engine optimization is constantly evolving. This is both good and bad for people that have been developing and maintaining websites for years. The Panda update that Google launched in 2011 has made developing a strong SEO strategy a consistent topic of discussion within the web community.

Several items remain important to the process. Good SEO still involves the use of relevant keywords in your content and your meta tags for the website. Take the time to do some solid research and discover what keywords and keyword phrases are going to be most beneficial to improving the organic search ranking for your site. There are plenty of great free keyword analysis tools on the web such as Google AdWords that can be used to research the number of times certain keywords are searched for on Google. Be aware that if the meta description of a page does not match a searched keyword there is a chance Google may re-write that meta description!

Other methods that continue to work for strong SEO include strong content that does not contain the overuse of those necessary keywords, engaging in a strong internal linking strategy, avoiding link spam by building trust in your site and service to gain quality links, and ensuring that the content on your site is fresh and updated on a consistent basis.

The age of a website will help. However, Google and other search engines will be able to determine if a website with a long history has not been edited for some time. That will damage the ranking for the site. Most important, be original! If you are scraping content from SERPs and the pages from other, more established websites, sooner or later Google’s spiders will recognize what you are doing and penalize the site. Once that occurs the recovery time could be a very long, extended period of time.

Have a great weekend folks!
