The Google +1 Button

The Google +1 ButtonLet’s face it, the rise of Facebook as one the premier social media websites has caused many to implement some of the more popular features of that site. Google took the simple concept of the “Like” button on Facebook and created a feature on its search engine by the name of the “+1 Button”.

An individual wanting to utilize the +1 button to recommend something needs to have a Google profile. Anyone that does not already have a Google account need not worry, Google makes it very simple to create a new Google profile in minutes and it costs nothing! Once a profile has been created using the +1 Button becomes a tool that can be used.

To quote Google, “The +1 button is shorthand for ‘this is pretty cool’ or ‘you should check this out.’” This is social media in its most simple form, a method for people to share with family and friends online anything they are currently interested in and want to share. Now it is easy to see while searching online for various goods and services if something an individual may have a passing interest in is something his or her friends have already tried out and can recommend.

The same theory applies when the user finds something he or she wants to share with the online world and proclaim, “This is amazing!” The +1 button appears to the right of any link that an individual can click on and will turn blue once the +1 button is clicked. More important, that page will now appear in the +1 tab of the individual’s Google profile.

Everyone has the option of keeping a Google profile public or private and can also decide whether or not to publicly share the +1 tab on his or her profile. Google makes it very easy to make any pages an individual clicked the +1 button on not visible to others on the web. The fact the +1 button was clicked will still appear as an anonymous part of the total times the +1 button was clicked. However, if someone wants his or her friends or people in other social media circles to know specifically what products and services he or she likes, make that +1 button visible and tell the world!
